Responsibilities

Job Description Summary

The site Safety Health & Environmental Specialist is an important role that will help manage safety, health and environmental initiatives. As the leader in Safety at the site, this individual will act as the liaison between the plant and the corporate safety manager, ensuring a higher level of responsibility and commitment to safety across all levels of the organization. This role reports directly to the Plant Director and dotted to Safety Manager and located on-site at the plant location.  This role interacts with team members at all levels to ensure we are driving a safety culture where each team member is accountable and responsible for Safety, Health and Environmental conditions and behaviors.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides accurate and timely reporting on KPI’s to drive performance
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedure
  • Maintain OSHA 300 and post 300A as required
  • Maintains current knowledge of and implementation of applicable regulatory and corporate environmental, health and safety regulations
  • Responsible for implementing systems and procedures, and work practices to ensure compliance
  • Monitors all aspects of workers compensation and return to work programs
  • Understand the safety risks associated with jobs by conducting risk assessments as needed site wide
  • Identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace.
  • Perform and coordinate building inspections of areas to identify hazards. Proposes methods to manage hazards and reduce risk.
  • Develops and administers training programs for safety accident prevention and protection
  • Partners with functions on initiatives including Quality, Engineering, HR, and Operations and regularly communicates with Corporate Safety Manager
  • Administer and maintain PPE program for the plant, ensuring inventory is maintained as needed
  • Ensure thorough investigation on all Safety and Environmental  incident investigations in coordination with supervisors, managers and team members to determine root cause
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Degree required, associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in Safety and Environmental in a manufacturing facility is preferred
  • Knowledge of  OSHA
  • Ability to train, coach, develop and hold others accountable to established  procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including leadership, influencing, and relationship-building across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Flexibility to handle and manage both long-term development projects and short-term troubleshooting needs.
  • Ability to work through and solve complex problems.
  • Strong computer and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Bi-lingual preferred
